Did you write that scene then? ("My coat. Does it sweep? etc, etc) I especially like the "stylish elan" bit - can't remember the other half terribly well. Something about conveying a sense of urgency??

Richard wrote that - actually I forgot the word had been used in Green Wing. Annoying.

Congratulations on your Neal Stephenson geekery - hardbacks, no less.

Oh bloody hell! There I was, trying to curry favour by admiring your work and instead I end up annoying you!

Yes, you should have attempted flattery by complimenting the man's literary tastes instead.

Not annoyed at you - just wish I'd picked another word now. Althought it might be a bit close to the Holy Grail 'dramatic... idiom' bit anyway.

And yes, don't those Nealy's look good all lined up? For double points, you may have noticed that Cryptonomicon is a publishers proof copy from when I worked at Waterstone's. It's a bit knackered now, from reading it in the bath. I nearly drowned.

I like the accent/grave bit on 'RETURNÉD'. Gives it a suitable epic feel. Yes, toy-fu will slowly be re-establishing itself within these pages. Screens. Whatever.

Marsha - "contained urgency yet stylish elan"?

Hooray for toy-fu! I'm so glad to see it back. *isn't sure how to do the accent on 'returned' but would do if knew how*
